Thanks to a new mod, it’s now possible to use the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 as a weapon in Grand Theft Auto V. The exploding Samsung Galaxy Note 7 saga seems to be never ending, despite the firm’s best efforts. And thanks to this mod for GTA 5, the debacle is far from being forgotten. Check it out here: The mod by HitmanNiko allows players to use the Note 7 as a sticky bomb, perfect for blowing up vehicles and generally causing mayhem. Using the virtual version of the phone to set traffic ablaze isn’t all that removed from reality, with the Note 7 recently being blamed for setting fire to a jeep thanks to its explosive tendencies. If you want to continue poking fun at Samsung you’ll have to download the mod using the link above. Related: Galaxy Note 7 recall FAQ The Samsung Note 7 was launched in the UK early in September but was soon beset by overheating problems, which often led to the handsets combusting. The issue was caused by a faulty battery, prompting Samsung to issue a worldwide recall. Happily for the South Korean firm, the handsets that didn’t explode were well received. October 21, 2016 Software & Gaming Update: Despite Samsung's best efforts, the video of a Galaxy Note 7 modded into GTA V as a bomb, has been restored. While it was never the only one out there, Samsung seemed to have taken particular interest in taking down the original, but Youtube has now rescinded its copyright takedown notice, leaving the video back online for all to see. Original Story: Samsung used copyright law to have a video of a GTA V mod taken down, because it featured a Galaxy Note 7 that players can use as a bomb. Clearly unhappy with the exaggerated interpretation of the Note 7's battery woes, Samsung didn't want anyone watching its phone blow up pedestrians, cops and cars in the digital world. [yframe url=' There's not a lot that's funny about the Galaxy Note 7, which has caused property damage and injuries to a number of people when its battery randomly overheats to the point where some of the handsets have exploded. What is rather funny though is using the devices as a bomb in a modded version of GTA V. While Samsung worries about recalling million handsets, it found the time to tackle a mod video on Youtube too. Of course as with any time a company or person tries to delete something from the internet, it has responded and there are plenty of other videos that you can watch to see Note 7s exploding around Los Santos. The following video remained online for days following the above video's takedown. [yframe url=' The original mod too is still available, so there's nothing stopping you from downloading it and enjoying the explosive power of Samsung's latest flagship device without risking bodily injury to yourself. Samsung's recall of the real life phone continues this week, with the Korean company even setting up booths at airports to exchange the devices, since it is now a federal crime in the to take one of the handsets on a flight. Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE. KitGuru Says: This is pretty silly of Samsung. This will ultimately just draw more attention to the phone and its problems, but the footage clearly isn't of real life. A game that mocks your phones explosive qualities isn't going to damage your brand any more than it already has been. Become a Patron! Tags galaxy GTA V mod Note 7 Overheat phone samsung Check Also
Home News Action GTA 5 If you follow tech news you probably already know that Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 has a habit of exploding for no reason. This is not good, neither for phone owners who do not want to catch fire, or for Samsung, who probably want to continue selling phones. Some people might find exploding smartphones quite handy, though, especially if they happen to live in Los Santos, where violent anarchy is the norm. So it's nice that modder HitmanNiko has added the Galaxy Note 7 into Grand Theft Auto 5. It basically works like a sticky bomb: throw it, step back, and watch it can grab the mod here, though the video below by Modded Games is probably enough, to be honest: Shaun Prescott is the Australian editor of PC Gamer. With over ten years experience covering the games industry, his work has appeared on GamesRadar+, TechRadar, The Guardian, PLAY Magazine, the Sydney Morning Herald, and more. Specific interests include indie games, obscure Metroidvanias, speedrunning, experimental games and FPSs. He thinks Lulu by Metallica and Lou Reed is an all-time classic that will receive its due critical reappraisal one day.
Now that almost any citizen of the internet can conjure a funny photoshop or GIF with ease, the video game mod has become a high-bar of lowbrow goofs. Mods, short for modifications, are tweaks that change how a video game looks or operates. Sometimes the goal is to improve the game, elevating the visuals or adjusting the difficulty, but my favorite mods are the one-off jokes. Grand Theft Auto 5 is a go-to home for the goofy mod. Last year, we cataloged some of our favorites: one dropped a whale from the sky, another constructed a skyscraper-sized skate ramp, jumbo jets fall from the fire, my favorite turned characters skeletons into JELL-O. Three years into GTA 5, modders are still putting out new works. This week, we get a gag from modder HitmanNiko inspired by the serious recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. In the video, above, we see the game’s sticky explosives have been replaced with Samsung Galaxy Note 7s. The real Galaxy Note 7’s battery ran the risk of exploding. The virtual Galaxy Note 7 is far more extreme. See for yourself in the video above. Yes, the mod is a little late to the Galaxy Note 7 goof parade, but this took time and dedication. This isn't your run-of-the-mill photoshop. No, this is the future of the high-touch internet joke. It is, dare I say, explosive.
